Boys & Girls Club of Wareham Going Green with Kukoo
Spring is here and the members of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater New Bedford/Wareham Unit are busy going green as part of its year-long Kukoo Goes Green program.
Over April vacation club members, staff and volunteers took a tour of the Ocean Explorium in New Bedford. Members engaged in a discussion on sustainability as well as a chance to see their renowned Science on a Sphere exhibit. Members also enjoyed seeing all the creatures and labs the Ocean Explorium has to offer.
Members thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the Living Ocean exhibit. “All of the animals were wicked cool,” said Club member Matthew Mobilia. “You don’t see things like this at the beach.”
Members spent time in the Ocean Explorium’s gift shop as well. Middle school member Zackary Oldfield grabbed himself a turtle backpack to commemorate his trip.
On May 1st, Tom Crane, a customer service representative from ABC Disposal Service Inc. visited the Club to talk to the members about recycling and waste management. Mr. Crane answered any questions members had about recycling. Mr. Crane mentioned to members the fantastic job that students do recycling at the Wareham Middle School.
The Club was provided with recycling bins so that members can begin recycling. One member is now so enthusiastic about recycling that she brings her empty water bottles from home to recycle at the Club.
The discussion ended with all the members receiving goodies from ABC such as pens, key chains and the “crowd favorite”: lime green stocking caps that are worn by ABC employees in the winter months.
