Parkwood Beach association celebrates 90 years with summer festivities
The Parkwood Beach Improvement Association marks its 90th anniversary this summer, and neighbors are celebrating with a reunion dance, a horseshoe tournament, a mini-carnival, and more.
Parkwood Beach was developed and marketed prior to 1923, but it was in that year that Henry A. Brown of Brockton called on the homeowners to form an association. The association is now one of the oldest beach associations in Wareham.
On Saturday, July 20, the association will hold its Reunion Dance at the Wareham Lodge of Elks on Cranberry Highway. The dance will feature the Honeymooners, who will play music from the 1940s through present day. The fun begins at 7 p.m. and the party continues until midnight. Tickets are $10 and can be reserved by contacting Pam at 508-295-7548 or Marge at 508-295-3213. Light refreshments will be served.
Parkwood Beach will also host a horseshoe tournament at noon on July 28, a mini-carnival on August 9 at 7 p.m., a community breakfast on August 11, and a chicken bake on August 17. A softball game -- possibly with old rival, Pinehurst Beach -- is also planned.
