Police charge man with indecent assault and battery and robbery
Police have arrested Joseph A. Gomes, 20, and charged him indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or over and unarmed robbery after a male party called the police and reported that he was sexually assaulted and robbed.
At approximately I:00 a.m. on Friday, June 25, 2010, the victim reported that he was walking in the area of Sandwich Rd. and Avenue "A" when he was approached by a male party on a bicycle who forced him into a nearby wooded area. The victim reporedt that he was sexually assaulted and robbed of a cell phone and a small personal sized case of DVDs.
An investigation by Wareham detectives identified the attacker as Gomes, of # 5 Apple St. in the Oakdale section of Wareham. A search warrant for his residence was executed where detectives located the stolen items. A warrant for his arrest was subsequently issued by Wareham 4th District Court. Gomes was located and arrested several hours later by Patrol Officer Daniel Henderson.
Gomes was arraigned on Monday, June 28, at Wareham Fourth District Court and is currently being held on $5,000.00 cash bail at the Plymouth County House of Correction. He is due back in court on July 29, 2010.
