A winning streak for the Gatemen?

Jul 7, 2010

Opening Day and now Independence Day, the Gatemen seem to come together to pull out a victory for the big, symbolic games. The July 4 win at Bourne was a necessity - the Gatemen snapped a six-game losing streak that was marked by late-inning breakdowns (twice in a row against Cotuit, and once against Yarmouth-Dennis ) and error-induced losses (against Yarmouth Dennis and Chatham).

A repeat win the subsequent night against Bourne, this time at home, brought renewed confidence - After being down 5-1 after a base-loaded double to the gap in right-center field by Jason Coats, of Bourne, cleared the bases in the top of the fifth inning, it didn't look good.

But the Gatemen came back for the 8-6 victory with a tremendous rally, scoring four in the bottom of the sixth and three in the bottom of the seventh after Braves pitching ran into trouble with singles and walks, respectively, to garner their first back-to-back victories of the season.

In other Cape Cod Baseball League news, the league announced that for the third straight year, its League's All-Star Game will be televised live.    CBS College Sports Network will televise the July 28 game from Fenway Park at 7 p.m.

Locally in the Boston and Cape Cod areas, Cape League fans can watch the game on Comcast/Xfinity's Channel 261 or via satellite.
