Joseph M. MacDonald, 49, of Onset, died Monday, November 11, 2013 at Tobey Hospital unexpectedly.

Born in Boston, Joseph was the son of the late John J. and Rosalie Sullivan. A previous resident of West Roxbury, he moved to Onset in 1971 and graduated from Wareham High School in 1986.

Joseph worked at T.J. Maxx in Wareham and was a volunteer at the Gleason Family YMCA. He participated in the WORK, Inc. day program in Wareham.

Joseph was a fixture at the Onset Fire Department and was well known in the Wareham emergency services community. He enjoyed spending time at the fire station and would help out wherever he could. Joseph enjoyed collecting baseball hats of all kinds and spending time with his family and friends.

He is survived by his sister, Rosalie P. Hill and her husband Frederick of Onset; his brother, John J. Sullivan and his wife Ann of Naples, FL; his nieces, Paula Hardy and her husband Patrick, Nancy Joseph and her husband Daniel and Marianne Sullivan; and many grand nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham on Saturday, Nov. 16th at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret’s Church, Main St., Buzzards Bay at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4 – 8 PM.
