Wareham Vikings finish homecourt tourney with tough loss

Dec 22, 2013

The Wareham Vikings boys basketball team ended its first home-court tournament in over a decade with a tough loss to Cardinal Spellman, 53-50, on Friday.

The final score might indicate the Vikings lost in a close, back-and-forth affair. However, this was not the case.

“What made [the loss] even tougher was the fact we had an 18-point lead at half-time,” said coach Kevin Brogioli. “Everything was going according to plan.”

Brogioli said Spellman switched its defensive strategy and effectively shut down Wareham.

“That bothered us, but we had a lot of opportunities to win it down the stretch,” Brogioli said. “I liked the way we competed. I didn’t like the outcome, but we learned something about each other.”

In the first game of the tournament on Thursday, the Vikings beat Dennis-Yarmouth, 62-45. This makes the Vikings' record stand at .500, 1-1.
