Vikings drop second game in a row
The boys basketball team lost an out of conference game to North Quincy Monday night, 64-53. The home loss signifies the first time the Vikings have lost back-to-back games in a long time time.
"I don't remember the last time we lost two in a row. It doesn't feel good," coach Kevin Brogioli said after the game.
It took four and a half minutes for the Vikings to score their first basket and they trailed the entire game. The first quarter, which ended with North Quincy up 9-7, featured air tight defense and sloppy offense.
"We had some bad turnovers, missed some easy shots," Brogioli said. "We had chances to go up early on a good team."
North Quincy, a division one team, was 7-0 coming into the game and ranked 11th in the state by Maxpreps.com
Brogioli said at times he questioned his team's toughness and passion.
"When push comes to shove, we're the ones who are getting pushed and shoved," he said. "They need to get more of a fire. They have to decide what kind of team they want to be."
Brogioli said the team feeds off of captain Mason Vasconcellos, who carried the team in the second half scoring 17 of his team-high 19 points. He hit five three-pointers in the second half, including one to bring the Vikings within five halfway through the third quarter.
But Vasconcellos' scoring burst wouldn't be enough as North Quincy seniors Efthim Butka and 6' 9" Anthony Green, combined for 25 second half points. Butka finished with a game-high 20 points.
Case and Bourne both lost conference games Jan. 14, leaving Wareham in sole possession of first place in the South Coast Conference.
Wareham's next game will be against Apponequet at home on Wednesday, but the last game of their season will be an away contest at North Quincy.
Brogioli said of the rematch, "It'll be a good barometer for where we are as a team."
