The candles are lit -- High School has new Honor Society members.

Jan 17, 2014

Seven 11th grade students took to the stage at the Wareham High School Auditorium as they became part of the National Honor Society.

Superintendent Kimberly Shaver-Hood and High School principal Scott Palladino were in attendance as the students were inducted.

"It's great for other students to see there's role models, and what they do inside and outside of school," Palladino said.

"I'm just proud of our students, and I am so happy to be here," Shaver-Hood said.

In order to join, students must maintain a 4.0 GPA (“High Honors”) for two consecutive trimesters. A 4.0 GPA only allows the student to go through the rating process. Faculty members rate students in the areas of service, leadership, character and citizenship.

Students also submit an application including an essay to the faculty council.

"I think it's important to showcase our best and brightest because they work hard," said advisor Christine Cinelli.

The inductees present at the ceremony were Kimberly Barboza, Rebekka Blanchette, Cecilia Briggi, Jeffery Cifello, Michaela Horman, Kaylyn Lockyer and Quinn Staley. 12th grade inductee Nathaniel King was not present at the ceremony.

National Honor Society members Charlemya Erasme, Hope Wallace and Nicole Nault were also in attendance.
