Crossfit works out against cancer
Wareham CrossFit and the Pan Mass Challenge team, Cancer Crusader Squad paired up to fight for cancer research last week. The gym, owned by Jen Crimaldi, created a workout of the day (WOD in crossfit terms) as a fundraising event.
The timed regiment consisted of 100 jump ropes, 23 hand release push-ups, 23 abmat situps, 23 burpees, and 23 ground to overhead with bumper plate. The WOD represented the 192 miles the PMC team will ride from Sturbridge to Provincetown on August 2 and 3. Many of the participants of the event were experiencing CrossFit for the first time.
Nichole Stahmer enjoyed trying something new and was surprised how quickly the WOD exhausted her. Katherine Frain was given an entirely new outlook on the benefits of CrossFit and looks forward to adding a visit to Wareham CrossFit to her weekly workouts.
CrossFit is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. The same routines have been used for elderly individuals with heart disease and professional cage fighters. The needs of Olympic athletes and our grandparents differ by degree not kind.
The two groups will meet again for another fundraising event on May 4 and Crimaldi has already cooked up a WOD to let cancer know they won’t give up without a fight. If you are interested in participating you can contact Wareham CrossFit at (508) 685-4867 or register online though eventbrite on the gym or Cancer Crusader Squad Facebook page.
