Wareham still walking for hunger
Today in Massachusetts, 700,000 people cannot confidently predict where their next meal is coming from.
Greater Wareham's Walk for Hunger aims to help some of those people fight that battle, with this year's event scheduled for Sunday, May 4, beginning at 1 p.m. with registration from 12-12:45 p.m.
Our Walk for Hunger once again is looking to raise money in support of Project Bread, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to alleviating, preventing, and ultimately ending hunger in Massachusetts. For four decades, Project Bread has been committed to meeting the needs of people who struggle to put food on the table and to funding long-term solutions to the problem of hunger.
Without support from organizations like Project Bread, we would not be able to help those in need and to create sustainable solutions that will ultimately end hunger. Project Bread supports over 400 soup kitchens, food pantries, and food banks in 135 communities throughout Massachusetts (including Wareham).
Last year’s Walk for Hunger raised approximately $6,100 (with over 100 walkers) for the mission of Project Bread. This year we hope to meet or increase that amount through pledges made to our walkers. The five mile course will be the same as in previous years. We will start at the Church of the Good Shepherd and proceed down Sandwich Road to the Church of the Nazarene, then along Route 28 before turning onto Depot Street then to Minot Avenue to Main Street then back to the Church of the Good Shepherd.
