School district hires new transportation manager

Aug 13, 2010

After interviewing seven candidates, Wareham Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Barry Rabinovitch, along with a hiring committee, has chosen a new manager of transportation.

Jeff Tatro, who takes over the reins on August 18, comes to the district from independent transportation company First Student, where he oversaw busing for Sandwich and Plymouth, Superintendent Dr. Barry Rabinovitch said.

Rabinovitch said he and the hiring committee, which was made up of the members of the School Committee's Transportation Review subcommittee, appreciated that Tatro has past experience running school transportation, especially in Plymouth, a larger district than Wareham. (The Transportation Review subcommittee is charged with examining the school district's busing operation.)

"We have a challenge ahead of us that I'm going to meet head on and I look forward to it," Tatro said during an introduction to the School Committee on August 11. He has a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Bridgewater State College.

Tatro takes over for Mary Jane Driscoll, whose three-year contract, which was up this year, was not renewed. Rabinovitch told Wareham Week in April that he could not go into the specifics of the personnel matter, but that the decision not to renew was mutual between Driscoll and management.
