Marie G. Gleason, 98
Marie Gertrude (Harper) Gleason, longtime resident of Wolcott, Connecticut passed away Saturday, May 10, 2014 at age 98. She was the daughter of the late Mary “Minnie” and Louis Harper. Originally from Fall River, MA, she was a previous resident of New Britain and Meriden, CT.
She was the widow of the late John “Jack” Thomas Gleason, her husband of 57 years until his death in 2003, and sister to the late Louis Harper of Wisconsin. She was an extremely loving mother, and is survived by her four children, Thomas Louis Gleason and his wife Kathleen of Wareham, John Joseph Gleason and his wife Pam of Bedford, NH, Jacquelyn Marie Pinard and her husband Kenneth of Boothbay, ME and James Michael Gleason and his wife Deborah of Holliston. She was much loved by her eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Gleason graduated from what was then New Britain State Teacher’s College in 1936 and from Columbia University in 1940 with her Master’s in School Administration and Supervision. She primarily taught 2nd and 5th grade in Wolcott, and retired exactly 40 years later in 1976.
She was a longtime parishioner of St. Pius X Church in Wolcott, and was also an avid reader who enjoyed quilting and passionately supported the UCONN men’s and women’s basketball teams.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thurs., May 15th, 2014 at St. Patrick’s Church, High St., Wareham, MA at 11 a.m. Interment will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Center St., Wolcott, CT on Friday, May 16th at 11 a.m. Visiting hours have been omitted.
