VISIT THE FEARING TAVERN THIS WEEKEND!
Jun 11, 2014
DON'T MISS A VISIT TO THE FEARING TAVERN! The Tavern, located on Elm Street, will be open to the public on June 14 and 15 from noon to 4 pm. It was here that Israel Fearing was reportedly found when the attack by the HMS Nimrod took place. He quickly joined the Wareham Minutemen and Militia to protect the town.
The building contains portions built in 1690, 1765, and 1820. Sixteen period rooms contain authentic 18th and 19th century furnishings, toys, tools, and many decorative and useful objects. The major portion of the Georgian Colonial house with its white clapboarded facade was built by tavern keeper Benjamin Fearing in 1765. The property remained in the Fearing family for over 200 years.
