Alleged drunk driver hits utility pole in Onset
An East Falmouth woman driving under the influence crashed her car into a utility pole in Onset in the early morning hours of Monday, June 30, according to Wareham Police.
Laura Wooding, 43 of East Falmouth was arrested for operating a vehicle under the influence, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct at the scene on East Boulevard.
Interim Wareham Police Chief Kevin Walsh said this was Wooding's second OUI.
"She caused quite a bit of damage," he said of the accident.
The crash was seen by Lou Alongi, a resident of Southbury, Conn. who is visiting Onset for the Fourth of July weekend. He said he was drinking coffee on his daughter-in-law's porch at 32 East Blvd. around 4:20 a.m. when he heard a loud crash and saw sparks.
"I assumed a transformer exploded," Alongi said.
He then phoned 911 and said two police cars came within minutes and blocked off the road.
