James B. Murphy, 67
James B. Murphy, 67, of Wareham, died July 2, 2014 at home after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of Janet M. (Bernard) Murphy. They were married for 46 years. He was the son of the late Francis E. and Joan B. (Ryan) Murphy.
He was born in Wareham and lived there for most of his life. Murphy served in the United States Coast Guard. He was a Vietnam War Veteran.
Murphy graduated from Bishop Stang High School and Northeastern University where he earned a B.S. in Electrical Engineering.
Murphy was a CAD teacher at Plymouth South High School where he worked for the last 10 years. Previously he worked as a communications engineer for SAIC in Marlboro and spent a few years working overseas.
He loved computers and repairing electronics for his friends and family. He was known as the “Go To Man” at work for troubleshooting repairs. He was a well-loved and respected teacher and professional.
Murphy was a communicant of St. Margaret’s Church in Buzzards Bay.
Survivors include his wife, Janet M. (Bernard) Murphy; his children, Colleen Currier and her husband Richard of Brownington, VT, Maureen Whitcomb and her husband, Jon of Plymouth and Timothy Murphy of Fayetteville, WV; three grandchildren, Nicholas and Brianna Whitcomb and Luke Murphy; his sister, Johanna Rittenhouse of Glen Burnie, MD; a niece, Ryan Rittenhouse and a nephew, Elliott Rittenhouse. He was the brother of the late David Murphy.
His funeral will be held at 9 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2014 from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret’s Church, Main St., Buzzards Bay. Visiting hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.
