Wareham has captured the HMS Nimrod... in a bottle

Aug 19, 2014

The Wareham Summer of Celebration Committee raffled off a a ship in a bottle (the HMS Nimrod to be specific) after all the summer's events were said and done

The ship was created by David Lavoie of Methuen, designer and builder of handcrafted ships in a bottle. The Nimrod was the ship that carried out the attack on Wareham during the War of 1812.

Wareham Schools Superintendent Kim Shaver-Hood donated the Nimrod ship in a bottle as a raffle item to the Wareham Summer of Celebration Committee.

The winner of the raffle was longtime Onset resident Winna Dean, who donated the item to the Wareham Historical Society.

"I live in a studio apartment. No one will ever see or enjoy it, so I gave it right back," Dean said.

Wareham Historical Society President Angela Dunham said the group thanked Dean for her gracious offer.
