Wareham primary vote in line with statewide results

A small number of Wareham voters went to the polls Tuesday in the state primary election and cast votes in line with the statewide results: Martha Coakley as the Democratic nominee for governor and Charles Baker as the Republican nominee.

Only 1,976 of the town’s 14,617 registered voters participated in the primary, 737 as Republicans and 1,239 as Democrats.

Coakley garnered 593 votes in Wareham to opponent Steven Grossman's 429 and Donald Berwick's 207.

On the Republican side, Baker received 559 Wareham votes as opposed to Mark Fisher’s 168.

Democrat Stephen Kerrigan received the nod as his party's candidate for lieutenant governor, in Wareham and statewide. Republican candidate Karyn Polito ran unopposed.

For Attorney General, Democrat Maura Healey's 760 Wareham votes easily topped Warren Tolman's 418, echoing statewide sentiment. Republican John Miller ran upposed.

In other contested races:

Democrat Deborah Goldberg, seeking her party's nomination for Treasurer, got the most votes in Wareham and statewide. She garnered 543 to Barry Finegold's 328 and Thomas Conroy's 249. On the Republican side, Michael Heffernan ran unopposed.

Among the four Republicans seeking to challenge Democratic incumbent Congressman William Keating, Daniel Shores of Sandwich emerged victorious in Wareham with 222 votes. But, statewide, John Chapman of Chatham appears to have received the nod.

For Governor’s Council, Democrat Joseph Ferreira topped a field of four in Wareham and district-wide with 378 votes. No one sought the Republican nomination.

For Plymouth County Register of Probate, Democrat Matthew McDonough defeated Mark Linde in Wareham and county-wide. On the Republican side, Joseph Truschelli defeated R. Andrew Burbine and Anthony O'Brien Sr. in Wareham, but incumbent O'Brien topped the field county-wide.
