Two local artists were recently recognized in the 2014 Senior Citizens Art Contest run by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Wareham residents Abbott Fay of Indian Neck and Kate Furler of Swifts Beach won awards in the watercolor category, where they were required to paint something local per this year's theme.

152 seniors (55 and over) from all over Massachusetts participated in the contest. Both Wareham artists paint with the Canalside Artists group at the Bourne Senior Center.

All of the art entries will be able to be viewed on the secretary of the Commonwealth's website under the State House Tours Division by mid- October.

Abbott Fay painted “Mill Pond Diner," and Kate Furler painted “Morning Light."
