Salon Enchanted offers something from beyond

Sep 26, 2014

Salon Enchanted offers all the products and services associated with your typical salon, but the salon itself is far from normal—you could even say it's paranormal.

Owner Laura Raymond, who has been a hairdresser in Wareham and Sandwich since 1989, recently opened her own shop in Wareham after working for both corporate and private hair salons. Raymond knew she wanted to open her own business, but decided to do things a little bit differently that what most people expect.

Along with friend, manager, and hairdresser/makeup artist Theresa Ferragamo-Gomes, the salon also has another employee—spiritual consulate Joe Andrade. Andrade does tarot card readings and spiritual counseling right from the 3103 Cranberry Highway location in East Wareham.

“My goal was to own my own salon and put my own spin on it,” said Raymond, noting that she emphasizes a non-sales-pressured environment that’s comfortable for customers. “It’s a place that I wish I was able to go to myself.”

Raymond said she's known Andrade since the two worked together at Spooky World in 2002. Andrade said he’s had psychic abilities since he was a child, but it wasn’t until later in life that he began to embrace them and use them to help other people.

“I have visions, or people contact me.  I have guides that speak to me,” he said. “I’m in tune with it now. It’s changed my life.”

Raymond said she’s seen Andrade perform successful psychic readings for people he’s never met before.

Andrade said that he also does paranormal investigating within people’s homes, which he doesn’t typically charge for. At Salon Enchanted, he does charge for spiritual counseling and readings.

Raymond has also worked with Ferragamo-Gomes at several different locations as well, and said she’s “a fabulous stylist and an absolutely phenomenal makeup artist.”

Ferragamo-Gomes also complemented Raymond’s skills, as well.

“She’s a keratin color supreme queen,” said Ferragamo-Gomes of Raymond, who recently received her master stylist certificate.

Kathy Saul, a Wareham resident and longtime customer of Raymond’s, said she keeps coming back to her for a number of reasons.

“It’s easy to be loyal because she is so excellent at what she does,” said Saul. “She really is talented and interesting. She has a loyal following.”

Raymond said that men and children are welcome at the salon as well, and that even though she’s put a different sort of spin into her business model, it’s still a place you can get quality service.

“You can have your hair done and have a reading done at the same time,” she said. “It’s a very unique thing.”
