Update: Alleged murder weapon found

Murder victim identified as Dwayne Borges of Wareham

Oct 9, 2014

Police have identified the victim in Wednesday morning's fatal stabbing at Cumberland Farms as Dwayne "Tuttie" Borges, 23, of Wareham.

Borges was stabbed inside of Cumberland Farms on Main Street and transported to Tobey Hospital before being airlifted to Boston Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

Police arrested four men near the scene – two on Indian Neck Road and two on the train tracks along Merchants Way. All have been charged with assault with intent to murder.

The four suspects, Latroy Hairston, 19, Jared Frye, 19, Demetrius Goshen, 18, and Adrian Garcia, 20, all from Wareham, are in custody at the Wareham Police Department and are awaiting arraignment as of Thursday morning.

One of the alleged murder weapons was discovered Wednesday in a bush behind M & D Bait and Tackle according to owner Michael Thomas.

Thomas found what he described as a six-inch hunting knife in the bushes behind his property at 149 Main St., less than 100 feet from Cumberland Farms.

"I watched them run right through my property," Thomas said of the four suspects. He said after discovering the knife he called the Wareham police, who searched his property with K9 units for three hours Wednesday afternoon.

Speaking to a reporter outside of Cumberland Farms on Thursday morning, a woman who would identify herself only as “Linda” said she was at the scene shortly after the stabbing and knew the victim and all four suspects.

She said the suspects were members of a “gang” that called themselves “The O’s” and that the victim was not a member of the O’s.

She described Wednesday’s confrontation as being the result of a recent encounter at a football game in town at which the victim punched a brother of one of the suspects.

The stabbing, Linda said, took place inside Cumberland Farms in the area where coffee is dispensed.

Borges was arrested in West Yarmouth last September for assault and battery of a police officer, outstanding warrant for felony intimidation of a witness, and resisting arrest. He was found guilty of assault and battery of a police officer on Nov. 30 last year and sentenced to six months in Barnstable County Correctional Facility.

According to Wareham police, the stabbing occurred at approximately 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday and was the result of a "confrontation between several males."

Several unmarked police vehicles were seen traveling down Main Street Wednesday afternoon, and police had secured the parking lot of Cumberland Farms with crime-scene tape.

Wareham Police said they and State Police detectives are investigating.
