Seized marijuana had been at Cape Cod Express prior to bust
Editor’s note: This case was dismissed at the Commonwealth’s request in 2016.
A Northampton man allegedly caught in Wareham with two duffel bags containing over 100 pounds of marijuana had picked up the package at Cape Cod Express on Tobey Road shortly before being pulled over by law enforcement officials, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney's office.
As of Thursday afternoon, Dean Colpack, 29, was ordered to be held on $10,000 bail.
According to Plymouth County Assistant District Attorney Christopher Veale, Dean Colpack was arrested after police were alerted to a suspicious package at Cape Cod Express. He said that a K-9 there had “marked a crate,” or identified a package as having illegal substances in it.
After a representative of Cape Cod Express notified Wareham Police, they then notified the Drug Enforcement Agency, who issued a warrant through Wareham District Court regarding the suspicious package.
Veale said that when DEA and Wareham police went to serve the warrant, Colpack was at Cape Cod Express attempting to pick up the package, and he was pulled over in a rented U-Haul truck shortly after leaving the location.
In the vehicle, DEA agents and Wareham police found two large duffel bags containing roughly 111 pounds of marijuana in 28 separate, heat-sealed packages, according to Veale. The marijuana was estimated to be worth approximately $250,000.
An attorney for Colpack said he had no prior criminal record, and that he taught at three different schools in the Northampton area, where he is “a respected member of the community.”
Initially, Veale asked that Colpack be held on a bail of $50,000.
