Healthy Lifestyle Fair well-attended

Dozens attended the Council On Aging's Healthy Lifestyle Fair at the Multi-Service Center on Saturday, which provided health screenings and loads of information to attendees about living healthier.
"The intent is to bring free medical and wellness information to the community," said Marcia Griswold, Director of Senior & Social Services. The event was open to all ages.
Nearly 30 vendors provided information about everything from hearing aids to chiropractic care. Workshops on cell phone usage, elder law, and arthritis were popular among attendees, and Reiki Two Practitioner Alice Wing provided "hands-on healing" treatments, which focused on relaxation and ridding the body of negative energy.
Southcoast Hospitals provided cholesterol and blood pressure screenings inside the Multi-service Center, while the Lions Club provided vision and hearing checks from its van in the parking lot.
The event also included a demonstration of new search-and-rescue equipment by Wareham Police sergeants John Walcek and Christopher Park. The equipment is designed to help people with cognitive conditions, such as Alzheimer's Disease and autism, who are at risk for wandering and getting lost. The at-risk person wears a radio transmitter and can be found by emergency officials with tracking equipment. (See the photo gallery in the right sidebar for more information!)
Attendees said they found the Lifestyle Fair very informative.
"I thought it was awesome," said Wareham resident Chuck Corey, whose chiropractor told him about the event.
Dale Jones, an Emergency Medical Technician from Marion, said he found it helpful to speak to the various vendors from the healthcare field.
"It was worthwhile," Jones said.
