A man was stabbed and airlifted to a Boston area hospital after an altercation in which a gunshot was heard at the Silver Lake Motel early Tuesday morning, according to police.

Wareham Police said officers responded to a reported disturbance at the motel located at 3026 Cranberry Highway at 4 a.m. Tuesday. After arriving on scene, officers were told that two unknown men had entered room 139 and assaulted the woman who answered the door, then assaulted two men who were residents of the room and were awakened during the commotion.

Police said during the investigation, officers noticed that 20-year-old Moises Mojica of Bronx, NY had been stabbed in the side and suffered what appeared to be a non-life-threatening injury.

Police said it was reported that a gunshot was heard inside the room as one of the assailants struggled with Mojica. The suspects fled the area after the alleged gunshot and it is unknown who fired the weapon, which has not been located at this time, according to police.

Mojica was transported to Tobey Hospital then transported to a Boston area hospital via Med-Flight. Mojica was the only victim transported to the hospital as a result of the incident, according to police. No injuries were sustained as a result of the gunshot heard during the disturbance.

Police said a motive for the incident is currently unclear but that the attack was not a random act. A backpack owned by Mojica was taken by the assailants during the incident. No arrests have been made as a result of the incident, according to police.
