Travel ban lifted at midnight; 14 reportedly without power in Wareham

Jan 27, 2015

The damaging winds and snowfall from the year's first major storm knocked out power to thousands of Wareham customers Tuesday morning, but as of 11 p.m., only 14 remaining outages were reported.

The number makes up for only .1 percent of NStar's 14,408 Wareham customers.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., Governor Charlie Baker announced that the travel ban will be lifted at midnight. Snow had slowed by 11 p.m., with snow expected to taper off completely by Wednesday morning.

At 10 a.m. Tuesday, 2,083 NStar customers in Wareham were without power, and by 11 a.m. that number was halved to 1,008, according to NStar. That number dropped to 43 by 1:30 p.m. and wavered into and out of the 50s before power was restored to most homes.

The storm began Monday afternoon around 3 p.m. As of Tuesday evening, well over two feet of snow had fallen in Wareham with drifts of more than five feet due to high winds. Several downed tree limbs and vehicles stuck in roadway were reported.

On Monday, a state of emergency was issued locally by Selectman Alan Slavin as well as for the entire state by Gov. Charlie Baker.

In an emergency, citizens are urged to call 911. All other calls should be directed to the Municipal Maintenance Department at (508) 295-5300. Calls regarding power outages should be directed to the local provider. To report an outage to NStar call 800-592-2000 or use their online Report an Outage tool.
