Fashionistas hold fundraiser at First Congregational Church
The stage in the First Congregational Church of Wareham was transformed into a runway Saturday afternoon when the Church held a fashion show fundraiser.
The women in the Church choir modeled outfits as the Church raised $600 to go toward the purchase of a new furnace.
"It was great, better than we expected" said JoAnn Anderson, coordinator of the event.
She said there was about 75 people in attendance and expected even more if the weather was better.
Anderson bought all of the clothes from thrift stores and other secondhand shops, although some garments hadn't even been touched. She said she bought an unused, still in the box $800 evening gown for $60 for the show.
After the show, the audience was invited downstairs to purchase the clothes worn in the show for $5 to $10 and Anderson said most of the inventory was sold.
Anderson gave a special thanks to Mary Kuhna, the director of the choir/models.
"We went to her house every Thursday for choir rehearsal since we didn't have any heat in the church," said Anderson. "She's a great lady."
Anderson said the Church will probably run another fashion show later in the spring or early summer.
"Everyone has been talking about it," she said. "It was a fun affair."
