Onset man arrested in connection with attempted bank robbery
An Onset man was arrested after an alleged bank robbery at the TD Bank on Main Street last Thursday afternoon.
Casey Jospeh Peluso, 31, of Onset, was charged with unarmed robbery and held on $10,000 cash bail last Thursday at Wareham District Court.
According to police, the incident occurred shortly before 12:30 p.m. at the TD Bank at 237 Main St. Police said they received a call that reported an unarmed man demanded cash from one of the tellers and made off with an undetermined amount.
According to court documents, Peluso said "Gimme your fifties and hundreds," to the two tellers inside the bank. He made off with three $50 bills and one $100 bill before exiting the bank and walking down Merchants Way toward the Wareham Fire Station.
By 12:45 p.m. Wareham police officers had Peluso in handcuffs in front of 361 Main St., at the intersection of Main Street and Route 6. Multiple Wareham officers and state troopers were on the scene.
According to an officer's arrest report, Peluso was, "strangely calm for what he was told he was a suspect of and claimed he had nothing to do with the robbery."
According to court documents, Peluso was on probation in Wareham and Falmouth. Peluso was arrested on June 6, 2012 in Bourne for larceny of more than $250 and felony daytime breaking and entering.
While in police custody, Peluso was positively identified by two of the bank tellers. TD Bank was temporarily closed due to the police investigation.
Peluso has a pretrial hearing set for April 10.
