Onset man to no longer face bank robbery charges

An Onset man arrested in connection with a Main Street bank robbery in March will no longer face the charges after the prosecution chose not to move forward with the case last week.

Casey Peluso, 31, was charged with unarmed robbery of the TD Bank on Main Street on March 12, after he allegedly stole $250 from a bank teller.

On May 27, attorneys for the Commonwealth chose not to prosecute the case and filed a “nolle prosequi” in Wareham Fourth District Court.

The statement read, “Although no reason is required to be given in the exercise of a nolle prosequi, the Commonwealth respectfully informs the court that due to serious concerns regarding the identification of the person in the surveillance video this case will be no prossed pending further investigation.”

According to police, the incident occurred shortly before 12:30 p.m. at the TD Bank at 237 Main St. Police said they received a call that reported an unarmed man demanded cash from one of the tellers and made off with an undetermined amount.

By 12:45 p.m. Wareham police officers had Peluso in handcuffs in front of 361 Main St., at the intersection of Main Street and Route 6. Multiple Wareham officers and state troopers were on the scene.

According to an officer's arrest report, Peluso was, "strangely calm for what he was told he was a suspect of and claimed he had nothing to do with the robbery."
