Selectmen choose not to reappoint Conservation Commission chairman
Selectmen went against the norm Tuesday and unanimously voted not to reappoint John Connelly Jr. to his position of the chairman of the Conservation Commission, which is set to expire this month.
Multiple selectmen stated it was time for "fresh blood" to lead the seven-member board tasked with protecting Wareham's coastal and inland wetlands and preserving open space and wildlife habitats.
Selectman Peter Teitelbaum said that while Connelly had served the town for a number of years, the stagnation and inactivity displayed by the current board falls on Connelly's shoulders.
"When you're re-elected chairman year after year after year the good follows you but also the difficulties follow you," Teitelbaum said.
"This was not undertaken lightly by this board," he said of the vote.
Selectmen re-appointed a number of people to various boards and commissions Tuesday night, including Sandy Slavin to her position as a member of the Conservation Commission. Selectmen voted 4-0-1 in that matter with Selectman Alan Slavin abstaining from the vote.
