Fishing folk flock to Tihonet Pond for annual Fishing Derby
They came by boat, canoe, kayak and even inner tube. They stood, sat and laid down on the shore. Some just ran around in the grass.
They were all there at Tihonet Pond on Sunday morning for the seventh annual Tihnoet Pond Fishing Derby.
More than 250 people came out to spend the morning at Tihonet Pond, according to Mike Houdellete, associate advisor with the Wankinquoah Road and Gun Club, which runs the event.
Families and friends came to the pond to see who could pull in the biggest catch, some were even there for their first time.
Wareham residents Harry and Susan Jahnke brought their grandson, Parker Corbeil of Virginia on his first fishing trip.
"I like it," Corbeil said about his first try at fishing. "We haven't caught anything yet, but we saw some turtles.
The Jahnke's said they had arrived at 6 a.m. when the fishing began. By 2 p.m. the Derby was over and the winners were announced.
In the Adult Bass category, 1st Place was Edward Hinko, 2nd Place was Eagan Reed, 3rd Place was Richard Morrell, III.
In the Adult Pickerel category, 1st Place was Michael Edwards, 2nd Place was Rob Nuttall, 3rd Place was Tyler Gallus.
In the Youth Bass category, 1st Place was Myles Tuomala, 2nd Place was Caleb Procaccini, 3rd Place was Ryan Souza.
In the Youth Pickerel category, 1st Place was Obby Gosselin, 2nd Place was Bradley Richards, 3rd Place was Robert Spear Jr.
In the Youth Panfish category, 1st Place was Kane MacDonald, 2nd Place was Dionte Rose, 3rd Place was Colin Malone.
