YMCA celebrates summer, community on Family Day
The third time was the charm for the Gleason Family YMCA.
After having to postpone twice due to weather, YMCA officials were finally able to celebrate Gleason Family YMCA Family Day last Thursday.
"It's a chance to give back to the community and appreciate our members," said the YMCA's Cathy Longfield.
The event, which was originally scheduled for Sunday, June 28, then Wednesday, July 1, celebrated the opening of the YMCA's outdoor pool, which opened on June 27.
Kids were not only able to get a taste of summer from swimming in the pool. There was also a free barbecue cookout for members and the community at large.
"We wanted to give people an opportunity to see what we're about," Longfield said.
In addition to the open pool and the cookout, there was a bounce castle and a rubber duck race later in the evening to round out the evening's activities.
There are still some sessions open for the YMCA's summer camp, Camp Nep-in-Nae. Interested families should contact the Camp and Child Care Director, Lyndsay Parnigoni at 508-295-9622 or LParnigoni@ymcasouthcoast.org for more information.
The outdoor pool is a YMCA member only pool. The pool is open Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to noon and 3:30 pm. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
