Inaugural golf tournament to be held for Wounded Warriors
Veterans can suffer many kinds of injuries – and not all of them are external.
On Oct. 4, the Bay Pointe Club will hold an inaugural golf tournament to raise funds for both types of injuries. Sponsored by the Café Roma, all proceeds will go to the Wounded Warrior Project, which supports veterans with visible and non-visible injuries.
Event organizer Paul Gordon hopes the tournament will become an annual event. Gordon has several close friends in active duty, and he said knowing that organizations such as Wounded Warrior will take care of the men and women in the military is heartening.
“I’ve always respected what those guys do, especially those who’ve gotten injured,” Gordon said.
The Wounded Warrior Project also funds long-term programs to help wounded veterans re-acclimatize to civilian life.
The entrance fee for the fundraiser is $100 per player, which includes the price of the tournament and dinner. The tournament will be in best ball scramble format, with four people per team. There will also be a putting contest and a marshmallow driving contest. Awards will be given to the top team, as well as for closest to pins, and for the longest drive for men and women, respectively. There will also be a variety of raffles for autographed memorabilia, gift certificates and more.
Registration begins at 11 a.m., and play begins at 1 p.m. Payment may be made in cash, check or credit and must be made at the time of registration on sight. The tournament is a rain or shine event.
