Onset Youth Center seeks donations to continue building
At 17 Tenth Street, the vision of serving and working with the youth of the Onset and Wareham communities is still at the forefront of the Onset Youth Center’s mission, but the meeting place to keep youth off the streets is temporarily stalled due to limited funds to continue construction.
“In the season of Thanksgiving, we would like to thank all those individuals and businesses for their many levels of support,” said Darryl Higgins, Onset Youth Center President. “Without them, we would not be where we are now, but there is still a lot of work to be done.”
Mr. Higgins and the members of the Onset Youth Center are urging community members and local businesses to consider a year-end donation in any amount. Onset Youth Center is a 503c nonprofit, therefore every donation made is tax-deductible and a great way to not only end the year financially, but also in the spirit of the holidays.
The members of the Onset Youth Center have worked feverishly this year to collect monies and secure commitments from local business to support the progress of the build. The center has used what monies it has collected to begin to revitalize the Center, including the demolition of the old dilapidated building, drafting and finalizing plans for the new facility and seeking approval by various town boards.
Now, plans to construct a place to host not only youth-focused educational programs but also clubs and social gatherings have come to a standstill until the Center can raise the next portion of money to continue, about $20,000. Next steps would include pouring and capping of the Center’s foundation.
Those considering a donation will become a “piece of the puzzle” and can elect to have their name displayed on our Thank You Wall. Donations can be sent directly to the Onset Youth Center, Inc., P.O. Box 1731, Onset, MA 02558 or in care of Mayflower Bank, 396 Onset Ave, East Wareham, MA 02558.
