Rosebrook hotel pays off for town

Nov 4, 2015

Town Administrator Derek Sullivan may have felt a bit like Santa Claus when making his report to Selectmen Tuesday night.

The new Marriott hotel in Rosebrook Place in West Wareham is living up to predictions about its ability to generate tax revenue, he said. In the third quarter of 2014, Wareham saw $18,421 in rooms tax revenue. In that same period in 2015, the town took in $73,491.

“What a great partner,” Sullivan said of the hotel, which opened in April of this year.

The good news didn’t stop there. Sullivan said Treasurer John Foster and other officials had things in good enough shape to set the tax rate before December for the first time “in at least a decade.”

But wait, there was more: The town administrator reported that an auction of two properties taken for non-payment of taxes last week netted the town $100,000, the sewer fund $20,000 and the Wareham Fire District $9,800.
