Margaret A. "Peggy" Gorton, 64, legal secretary

Margaret Ann “Peggy” (Potter) Gorton, 64, of Onset, died Monday, November 22, 2010 at her home after a long illness. She was the wife of Lucien E. Gorton.

Born in Wareham, the daughter of the late Frank L. & Caroline J. (Hunter) Potter, she was a graduate of Wareham High School.

Peggy was employed as a legal secretary for the law office of Ready, Kiernan and McNally, in Wareham for 29 years. A longtime member of the First Congregational Church, in Wareham, she taught Sunday school since the age of 19 and also served as Superintendent of Christian Education.

She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Kristina Wallace, of Wareham and Lori Westgate, of Leland, NC; two stepsons, Brian Gorton, of Shelburne, VT, and Lucien S. Gorton, of Onset; her brother Richard Potter, of Wareham; her sister Barbara Day, of Southwick; her grandchildren Ashley Longuemare, Allison, Tyler and Connor Wallace, and Logan and Madison Westgate. She was predeceased by her brother and sister, the late Frank “Pete” Potter, Jr. and the late Catherine “Kitty” Potter.

Her funeral will be on Saturday, November 27, at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Rt. 28), Wareham at 10 a.m. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Marion. Visiting hours will be Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home.
