Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito signs Community Compact with Wareham, surrounding towns
Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito signed Community Compact agreements with officials from the towns of Wareham, Plymouth, Plympton, and Middleborough Thursday morning in Plymouth.
“The Baker-Polito Administration is excited to announce our new partnerships between the Commonwealth and these municipalities,” Polito said in a press release. “We look forward to working with dedicated local leaders to implement their chosen best practices in the areas of housing development, land conservation and financial planning.”
Community Compacts are a state administration tool in which the Commonwealth agrees to fulfill a set of commitments and works to provide assistance for a community based on their chosen "best practice," which is a change or focus within the community meant to benefit the community.
Wareham chose to focus on housing and financial management. As such, the compact and the town will work together to achieve the following:
- A focus on improving the town’s ability to partner with the private sector, non-profits, and public sector organizations in order to advance the housing and economic development vision and goals of the community as evidenced by the successful completion of projects.
- A documented fiscal policy that accounts for reserve levels, capital planning, and the town’s use of free cash.
