Several Wareham athletes were inducted into the high school’s athletic hall of fame Nov. 28.
Principal Scott Palladino said it was the fourth year the induction was held, though it began in 1989.
“We took a 14-year hiatus,” Palladino said, and laughed. “This is the third year in a row, and next year we hope to have a fifth.”
The list of new hall-of-famers is as follows:
- Melvin Fontes (1952) Football, Basketball and Baseball
- Leonard Fontes (1955) Football, Basketball and Track
- Ronnie Oliver (1974) Football, Basketball and Baseball
- Joseph Cafarella (1967-1994) Athletic Director
- Ralph “Bubba” Pina (1973) Football
- 1995 Football Team (Division 4A Super Bowl Champs)
- Chris Cabe (1996) Golf, Basketball and Baseball
Palladino said there have been a total of 3 athletic teams and 27 people inducted into the hall of fame. A committee of seven people chooses the inductees.
