Ruth B. York, 91, of Onset, died Friday, Dec. 4.

Born in Boston on June 20, 1924, Ms. York was the daughter of the late Beatrice (McGuire) and V. Everett York.

Ms. York was a graduate of Melrose High School, Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa, University of Iowa, Iowa City with B.A. and M.A. degrees and Columbia University, New York, with a Ph.D. in French literature.

Dr. York’s long teaching career included the University of Iowa, Graceland College, Illinois College, Columbia University, and for 24 years the University of California at Davis where she was the Department Chair of French and Italian for seven years.

Ruth was a lifelong summer resident of the Community of Christ Grounds in Onset. It became her home after retirement.

Family and friends are invited to a graveside service on Friday, Dec. 11 at Agawam Cemetery, Stillman Dr., Wareham at 11 a.m.
