Brewer Yacht Yards and Marinas acquires Onset Bay Marina

Jan 12, 2016

The Onset Bay Marina has recently been acquired by boat yard magnate Brewer Yacht Yards and Marinas.

The buy, which took place Dec. 28, marks Onset Bay Marina as the company’s 26th yacht yard, said company Vice President James Phyfe. Phyfe declined to comment on how much the company spent on the acquisition, but said it was bought in conjunction with Green Harbor Marina in Green Harbor, Massachusetts. He said it is the first time the company has bought two marinas at once.

Phyfe stressed that very little will change. He said the company will not fire or replace the marina’s staff of 18 people, unless they need to add more to assist with “voids” that may need to be filled.

“We treat each yard as its own small business,” Phyfe said. “We like to give folks as much autonomy as possible.”

Phyfe also said the company does not plan to change the Onset Bay Marina very much at all, other than a bit of maintenance work, and pulling the main dock out to the fuel dock.

“We are trying to put a fresh face on it,” Phyfe said. “We are going to be replacing roofs that need to be replaced, but we obviously can’t do a lot of work in the middle of winter.”

Operations will also continue as usual, Phyfe said, because the company wants “to be continuously transparent to customers.”

“We are not going to change contracts or subcontracts, or anything like that,” Phyfe said. “They will also get free nights at other marinas, and discounts on fuel. I hope that will be welcome to customers.”
