Town sees no power outages in first major storm of the winter

Jan 24, 2016

Wareham survived its first major snow storm of the season without any power outages reported, according to Board of Selectmen Chairman Patrick Tropeano.

The storm lasted from the afternoon of Jan. 24 into the morning of Jan. 25, dumping a total of 8 inches of snow on the area, according to the National Weather Service. Winds reached up to 44 miles per hour.

In previous emails, Tropeano had said the town was implementing normal plowing and salting procedures, but was prepared to turn the Multi Service Center into a warming station, if “a number of power outages” were reported.

The Wareham Police Department instituted a parking ban that began at 12 p.m. on Jan. 24, in anticipation of a possible 10 to 14 inches of snow, and winds up to 60 miles per hour. The department has not yet lifted the parking ban, and has not reported any accidents.

Superintendent Kimberly Shaver-Hood said in an email that school is still scheduled for Monday, Jan. 25.
