Snowmen made of anything but snow at Wareham Free Library
The weather Saturday certainly leant itself to an abundance of snowman-making material, but the nine entries in the Wareham Free Library’s snowman building contest were made of anything but snow.
The contest began on Jan. 20, and ended on Jan. 23. Though it was open to all ages, reference services librarian Deb Rich said they only received entries in the ages 1 – 6 category, and ages 7 – 12 category. The staff named the groups “Little Builders” and “Big Builders,” respectively.
“They were all adorable, so we created prizes for everyone,” Rich said. “They are all getting a Target gift card.”
In the Little Builders category, the winners were as follows:
- First Place – Hayden Williams
- Second Place – Jack Walsh
- Most Creative – Sara Baronas
- Staff Pick – Malia O’Connor
In the Big Builders category, the winners were as follows:
- First Place – Serenity
- Second Place – Michelle Rosen
- Group Prize – Zoey and Alexis
- Most Creative – David Rosen
- Silliest Snowman – Allison Walsh
Rich said there will be another contest coming up in March, in which contestants will be able to make their favorite Dr. Seuss characters. She also said February is dedicated to exploring nature, and outdoor discovery.
“We wanted to have a live owl demonstration, but that was too expensive,” Rich said. “We are looking for an animal program that is a little less expensive.”
She also said there may be a coloring night for adults at the library.
