Richard William Post, Jr., 83, of Wareham, died March 31, 2016 in the McCarthy Care Center, Sandwich.

He was the husband of Josephine P. (Pagani) Post, for 58 years. He was the son of the late Richard William and Paula (Kasper) Post.

He was born in Manchester, CT and lived in Wareham since 1961. He attended the U.S. Naval Academy Preparatory School, the University of Connecticut and the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD.

He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the United States Navy as a Radioman Second Class aboard the USS Edisto, an Icebreaker.

Mr. Post owned and operated Dick Post Cape Retread Tire Company on Cranberry Hwy. for many years. He worked for the Wareham Fire District Clerk/Treasurer’s Office and for himself as a Tax Preparer, Enrolled Agent.

Mr. Post served as a Selectman for 9 years for the Town of Wareham and also served on the Board of Appeals.

He was a member of the Fr. Francis D. Callahan Council 4139 Knights of Columbus, the Wareham Lodge of Elks, the Nivlac Look Club and the ROMEO Club (Retired Older Men Eating Out).

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Josephine P. (Pagani) Post; 2 daughters, Charleen Post of Onset and Donna Reidel and her husband, Tim of N. Attleboro; a son, Richard W. Post, III of Wareham; a sister, Gail Januskiewicz and her husband John of Belchertown; 3 grandchildren, Whitney Post of San Francisco, Corin Dew and her husband Darren of Alverston, Ontario and Jacob Reidel of N. Attleboro; 4 great grandchildren, Gregory Richard Reidel, Brianna, Hunter and Ryder Dew.

His funeral will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Margaret’s Church, 141 Main St., Buzzards Bay.

Burial will follow at the Mass National Cemetery, Bourne.
