Wareham's Bike Den opens in new, larger space
Previously tucked away on Elm Street, Wareham’s Bike Den is no longer hidden after reopening in a larger, highly visible space.
“We’ve been very encouraged here,” said owner Denny Barry. “We definitely have more traffic in the store now.”
On Thursday afternoon, customers streamed into the new store located at 2569 Cranberry Highway looking for repairs, advice and gear.
Some customers offered words of encouragement.
“You’ll do great,” said one woman looking for new tires.
A longtime cyclist, Barry said starting the business was something family and friends encouraged him to do.
“I came to a crossroads in my work life and was fortunate enough to open a bike shop,” he said.
Barry, a Lakeville resident, originally opened the shop in October 2014 inside a historic building on Elm Street. The previous business was off the main drag, but customers still found their way to the shop.
“We were kind of hidden, that’s all,” said Barry.
When the nearby Elm Street bridge closed due to safety concerns, passing traffic slowed. Barry then found a new space a short walk away in what was the Millpond Package Store.
Since re-opening four weeks ago, Barry said business has been brisk and that he plans to be around for a while.
The shop sells Giant and Trek brand bicycles, in addition to helmets and accessories. Repairs are available on site.
