Never too late to commemorate

May 30, 2016

The Memorial Day wreath decorating didn't go as scheduled due to the pouring rain in the morning, but it wasn't completely called off either.

In lieu of a ceremony at each site, only a few went around town and placed wreaths while dedicating a prayer to the fallen.

Veterans Jim Bruce and Steve Ruiz, along with Michelle Ruiz placed 10 wreaths in the Centre, St. Patrick's, and Agawam cemeteries, the Town Green, Town Hall, Dudley Brown Square, Onset Bluffs, the Stone Bridge and Besse Park within 30 minutes.

"You have to remember, you have to do something," said Michelle Ruiz.

Bystanders watched and some gave their regards to Bruce, who saluted to each flag at the locations.

"Rest in peace my friends," said Bruce.
