Police Chief Kevin Walsh commended a Wareham Water District employee for his assistance in rescuing an elderly woman on May 20.

When Water District employee Peter Galavotti learned that an 85-year-old woman was injured 1-mile in the woods off Blackmore Pond Road he notified first responders and remained on the scene.

With Galavotti’s assistance, the woman was found with a broken leg and head wound. She was transported to the hospital for treatment.

Walsh said Galavotti provided first responders with information on the area’s terrain, alerting them to potential trouble spots.

“I would like to sincerely thank and commend Peter Galavotti for his cooperation during this incident,” said Walsh. “And hope that the Wareham Water District is just as proud of his actions, which resulted in the quick location of an injured and distraught citizen.”

Wareham Water District Superintendent Andy Reid said Galavotti’s quick thinking and resolve are part of his character.

“He’s a really good guy,” said Reid. “He is good natured and always wants to do the right thing.”

Hired in July 2006, Galavotti performs cross connection surveys for the department and does testing to ensure drinking water does not become contaminated.

Galavotti was unavailable for comment as of this publication.
