School officials announce members of Minot Forest School Building Committee
The redevelopment of Minot Elementary School moved forward Wednesday night with the announcement of who will serve on the Building Committee.
Wareham Public Schools Finance Manager Michael MacMillan submitted the names of 21 people to the School Committee. The list includes representatives from town government, education, parents and the community at large.
MacMillan explained the district is required to submit the names to the committee per Massachusetts School Building Authority regulations.
The state agency will subsidize a significant amount of the project, which may see the school rebuilt, renovated, expanded or a combination of those plans.
In April, Annual Town Meeting voters OK’d spending $1 million for a feasibility study to look at how to best move forward.
Superintendent Dr. Kimberly Shaver-Hood will chair the Building Committee, which includes School Committee members, district officials and members of the Selectmen, Finance Committee, Planning Board and Municipal Maintenance, in addition to an engineer, architect, parents and a community member.
Committee member Geoff Swett thanked all who volunteered for the committee.
“I applaud their willingness to participate,” said Swett.
