Proud moments for WHS Underclassmen

Jun 10, 2016

Wareham High School students gave their supporters a chance to holler and scream during the Underclassmen Awards ceremony Thursday night.

The high school auditorium was packed with families and friends who cheered on students in the top 10 percent of the classes as they received awards for outstanding performances in 10 departments. Scholarship winners were also announced at the ceremony.

Nicole Quintal's mother, Betty, was crying tears of joy in the crowd while watching her daughter win award after award.

"Mommy is so proud of you," she said after her daughter returned to sit with her friends and family.

At the conclusion of the event, the Stephen A. Stone Memorial Scholarship, which was increased from $32,000 to a $40,000, was awarded to junior Jenna Burk.

David Stone presented the award after giving a heart-felt speech.

“Learning should never cease as long as you have an open mind and are not afraid to challenge yourself. Let yourself fall. Pick yourself up so you can fall down again," he said. "And again. Almost every successful person openly credits their failures with making them a success. Please, don't ever be afraid to fail. Be very afraid of not trying.”
