4th annual Lazy Lobster race benefits MyTeam Triumph

Mary Nogueras believes everyone, regardless of physical ability, should be able to compete. And on Sunday, 323 people participated in the 4th annual Lazy Lobster 5/10 Mile Race.

“This is our biggest fundraiser,” said Nogueras, a founding member of the state’s chapter of MyTeam Triumph, which is a local chapter of a national organization that helps athletes with disabilities.

Proceeds from Sunday’s event helped purchase wheelchairs that will be used in future races.

Many of the runners participated alongside loved ones who otherwise would not be allowed to compete in other races.

John Schmidt, ran the last half mile alongside his son, Noah.

“This is a great organization,” said John. “We’ve know Mary for years and no one here takes anything for granted. Every accomplishment is celebrated.”

This marked the first year the race moved from the Decas Elementary School. The start and finish line were set up at Wareham Crossing. Afterwards, participants enjoyed live music and refreshments.
