Aug 31, 2016

Don't Trash Wareham seeks volunteers for the state's annual Coastsweep cleanup. Volunteers are needed for a two-hour block.  For more information or to sign up, email donttrashwareham@gmail.com so organizers know how much supplies need to be provided.

Coastsweep takes place on the following dates:

  • Swifts and Swifts Neck Beaches, Saturday, Sept. 17 (rain date Sept. 18)
  • Little Harbor Beach, Saturday, Sept. 24 (rain date Sept. 25)
  • Onset and Shell Point Beaches, Saturday, Oct. 1 (rain date Oct. 2)

All cleanups take place from 10 a.m. to noon.

Last year across Massachusetts, 3,000 volunteers participated and removed more than 6 tons of trash from beaches and waterways. The most common was cigarette butts — 45,900 total with 4,681 coming from Wareham and Onset beaches.
