Hermine blows through Wareham without incident
Tropical storm Hermine passed by Wareham on Monday without causing any major damage, town officials reported.
“I’m very happy with the way things turned out,” said Onset Fire Chief Ray Goodwin. “There was no property damage and no one got hurt. Those are the big ones for us.”
Goodwin said firefighters did respond to a few storm-related calls, including downed electrical wires and one where a tree fell onto a house causing minor damage.
Hermine brought high seas to the South Coast as the area was put under a tropical storm warning. The storm featured 25 to 35 mph winds and gusts of up to 40 mph.
Harbormaster Garry Buckminster said many boaters took precautions before the storm, which helped prevent damage.
“It was a very quiet event and there is nothing to report, which is a great thing,” said Buckminster. “We saw a lot of people cover their boats and make sure their lines were secured, and we appreciate the effort because it paid off.”
In Wareham, the Fire Department responded to a handful of calls related to downed electrical wires. Otherwise, the storm passed without incident.
According to the National Weather Service, breezy weather will persist through the beginning of the week.
