Janice Tavares, 70
Janice M. (Fernandes) Tavares, 70, passed away on Sept. 18 at her home in Wareham. She was the wife of Antonio A. Tavares.
Born in Wareham, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Baptiste) Fernandes. Mrs. Tavares retired from NSTAR where she worked as a credit representative. She was a member and past president of the Dudley L. Brown V.F.W. Post #284 Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the Red Hatters.
Mrs. Tavares enjoyed sewing and knitting and her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband Antonio A. Tavares of Wareham; her two sons, Robert F. Monteiro, Jr. of West Wareham and Allan S. Monteiro and his companion Catherine Baptiste of Onset; two brothers, Milton Fernandes of Sun Tan Valley, Arizona and Paul Fernandes and his wife Donna of Carver; her sister, Linda Ferrieira and her husband Henry of Fairhaven and her six grandchildren, Kimberly, Azia, Tia, Marcus and Landyn Monteiro and Jaiden (Monteiro) Daley.
Her funeral will be from the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Route 28), Wareham on Sept. 23 at 10 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Patrick’s Church, High St., Wareham at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
